Madera County Plans Safety Improvements to Ave 12 after Candlelight Vigil

Madera, CA – In response to growing public concern over the rising number of fatal accidents on Avenue 12 near Highway 41, Madera County officials have pledged to implement new safety measures along this hazardous roadway, according to KSEE.

The announcement follows a candlelight vigil held by grieving families on Sunday, September 8, 2024, who gathered to remember loved ones lost in recent crashes and called for action to prevent further tragedies.

Among the recent incidents was a devastating multi-vehicle collision involving a big rig on August 30, 2023, and a heartbreaking accident on July 18, 2024, in which two pedestrians were struck—one fatally, the other seriously injured. These accidents are part of a growing pattern of dangerous conditions on Avenue 12, where the flow of traffic has become increasingly perilous.

During the vigil, families shared emotional stories, urging local officials to take action. Their voices were heard, as Madera County Supervisor Jordan Wamhoff announced a series of immediate and long-term safety improvements for Avenue 12.

Interim changes, set to be in place by the end of September 2024, will include an increased police presence, revised signage, and modifications to traffic lanes. These measures aim to slow traffic and reduce the risk of further accidents.

Looking ahead, long-term plans, slated for completion by June 2025, involve widening Avenue 12, adding additional lanes, constructing a concrete median, and installing more traffic signals. These improvements are expected to create a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Residents can visit the Madera County website for a full list of the planned improvements.

Wrongful Death Claims

Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling.

Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses. However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve.

This is why having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential so that they can fight to make sure you receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
