Madera Ranchos, CA — Friday morning, August 30, 2024, a multi-vehicle collision involving a big rig claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman, according to The Fresno Bee.
The accident occurred around 5:40 AM on Avenue 12, a key route connecting Fresno to Madera Ranchos.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a 39-year-old man from Kerman was driving a Peterbilt big rig westbound on Avenue 12, near Riverstone Boulevard, when he failed to notice a 2017 Chrysler stopped ahead, waiting to turn left. The big rig collided forcefully with the rear of the Chrysler, driven by a 21-year-old Fresno man, pushing the vehicle off the road and causing it to overturn.
As the big rig veered out of control, it crossed into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a second vehicle, a 2013 Nissan. The impact sent both the big rig and the Nissan off the road, crashing into three trees before coming to a stop.
The driver of the Nissan, a 31-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving her family and friends grieving the sudden and unexpected loss. The young man driving the Chrysler sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the big rig was unharmed.
CHP officers have indicated that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the crash.
