Sacramento, CA – Geohaira Sosa, a 32-year-old first-year resident physician at UC Davis in the Department of Psychiatry, was tragically killed in a fatal scooter accident in East Sacramento last Thursday morning, August 29, 2024, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The collision occurred around 10:30 AM at the intersection of Alhambra Boulevard and Folsom Boulevard, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Sosa had recently moved from the East Coast to begin her medical residency, bringing with her a passion for helping underserved communities. She had earned degrees in biology, psychology, and urban bioethics, and was known for her compassionate work as a mental health ambassador and crisis counselor. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by the UC Davis Department of Psychiatry described Sosa as someone who “radiated joy, kindness, and authenticity.” The fundraiser aims to cover funeral expenses and help transport her body to her family.
The accident involved a box truck that struck Sosa while she was riding her electric scooter. The Sacramento Police Department confirmed that the driver stayed on the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
