Paso Robles, CA – According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, authorities have released the names of some of those involved in the fatal solo-vehicle crash on Creston Road in the early hours of Monday, March 11, 2024.
Around 12:29 AM, 20-year-old Angel Melquiades Ramos was speeding along Creston Road west of Neal Springs Road in a gray 2008 BMW 328i, when he lost control of the vehicle. Investigators have not determined why Ramos made the sudden right turn that caused the BMW to leave the roadway and roll over multiple times.
While Ramos fled the crash on foot, two Paso Robles residents, 41-year-old Carlos S. Torres Diaz and 47-year-old Aliandro Torres Gomez, received transportation to Sierra Vista Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for treatment of their injuries. Authorities pronounced an unnamed 43-year-old passenger from Salinas dead at the scene.
At 11:25 AM, officers of the California Highway Patrol arrested Ramos on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. However, he had not yet received medical treatment for his injuries and was transported to the hospital as well.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even in cases where criminal charges are not brought to bear, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.
The compensation provided by a wrongful death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny, which is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable by negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
Liability in Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some circumstances, investigations can reveal that some portion of the liability for a single-vehicle collision might fall upon other drivers in the vicinity of the accident or even unsafe roadway structures. Working through the particulars of liability to help victims and their families find proper compensation is one of the many services a personal injury attorney can provide.
Once liability has been established, a personal injury attorney can also negotiate on behalf of the victim with insurance companies, who will always seek to minimize the payout for any claim they cannot deny.
