On February 22, 2022, a Blue Alert went out around 11:30PM ET. People in Florida received this on their smartphones and other devices.
The Blue Alert Reads:
A Florida Blue Alert has been issued for Georgy Ryan Miedema, last seen in Perry, Florida. He may be traveling in a 2000, gold Chrysler Sebring, FL tag number Y78TKU. The vehicle has a dark colored convertible top. If located, DO NOT APPROACH. Call 911.
The FDLE Facebook page added: Contact law enforcement immediately. If you have any information on the whereabouts of this person please contact the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office at 850-584-2429 or 911.
What is a Florida Blue Alert?
A Florida Blue Alert notification signals when a law enforcement officer is hurt or killed on duty at the hands of someone who could still harm the public.
Note that in this case, it appears that the incident occurred in Perry, Florida. When a Blue Alert goes out, everyone in the entire state receives it.
Gregory Ryan Miedema
This is not Ryan’s first run in with the law. He is on the Florida sex offender registry, and if he has harmed a police officer, he is likely to be extremely dangerous. Call police if you see him.
WCTV is reporting that a Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot multiple times and has been life flighted to a hospital. According to their article, the incident allegedly occurred 6mi south of Salem, Florida.
At 2PM, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) and Dixie County Sheriff’s Office held a joint press conference. Gregory attempted to break into a homeowner’s residence around 7:30AM. The homewoner was prepared. Gunfire was exchanged. Gregory was shot and killed. Thankfully, the homeowner was ready to protect his home and nobody else was severely injured.
The officer shot by Gregory was severely injured and is expected to survive.
