Wrongful Death Lawsuit Emerges After Surfside Florida Condo Tower Collapse

What is likely to be one of several wrongful death lawsuits has been filed in relation to the Champlain Tower Condominium collapse in Surfside, Florida.

Yahoo reported on the lawsuit on July 9, 2021. According to Yahoo, the suit was filed by Chalik & Chalik Injury Lawyers.

Josephina Henriquez is the “pending personal representative for the estate of deceased Ana Ortiz” and has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Champlain Tower South Condominium Association, its property manager, and its engineering firm.

The lawsuit alleges negligence and gross negligence, claiming that the “signs leading up to this horrible collapse were apparent for years as the engineering firm submitted reports of the damages. Years of neglect and concrete deterioration led to an unsafe living environment.”

Though the lawsuit is being filed on behalf of the estate of Ana Ortiz, 46, her husband Frank Kleiman, 55, and her son Luis Andres Bermundez, 26, also perished in the collapse.

As of writing (July 9), 78 people have been confirmed dead as rescue crews attempt to recover bodies from the wreckage.
