On Monday, January 6, 2020, a line of cars on Interstate 75 near Tampa Florida sat waiting to move when suddenly a Monte Carlo failed to slow down and slammed into the rear of a RAM 1500 pickup truck. The truck spun around and hit a couple more vehicles before coming to a rest.
The chaotic scene was caught on video thanks to a reverse facing camera. Check out the video which was uploaded to YouTube via WTSP:
According to Fox 13 News, the driver of the Monte Carlo and the RAM pickup truck both sustained serious injuries. It was reported that the Monte Carlo’s skid marks stretched around 315 feet from the initial collision.
Florida Cracks Down on Distracted Driving:
It’s too early yet to say why this driver never slowed down, however many distracted driving accidents occur due to texting and driving.
As per Florida’s texting and driving law, as of January 1, 2020, Florida drivers may be pulled over if they’re caught texting and driving. The initial fine is only $30, so it remains yet to be seen if this new law will deter drivers from checking their email while on the freeway.
Florida is the 45th state to crack down on texting and driving.
