Tulare County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, September 17, 2026, a hit-and-run involving three vehicles resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:05 PM at Road 152 and Avenue 192.
Authorities said the collision involved a red Nissan sedan, a gray pickup truck, and a white Jeep, all coming to rest eastbound. A witness reported that the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot toward the southwest. One person was found unconscious inside a vehicle. Tulare County Fire Department and emergency medical services responded to the scene.
Officers searched the surrounding area, including a nearby residence and orchard, in an attempt to locate the fleeing driver, though a resident contacted at the scene reported not having seen anything suspicious. A K9 unit was requested to assist in tracking the suspect, and officers were advised not to touch the involved vehicle to preserve a scent trail. The vehicle was later traced to a registered owner in Atwater, who told police a man named Luis Nava had taken the vehicle four days earlier and that they had not had contact with him since and did not know where he had taken it.
Three evidence tows were requested for the vehicles involved. The roadway was reopened at approximately 8:56 PM.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
