Santa Clara County, CA – On the evening of Saturday, September 12, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on Monterey Road, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:35 PM at Monterey Road and Church Avenue, a rural stretch of roadway south of San Jose.
Authorities said a gray Ford SUV went off the roadway and struck a tree. A separate party involved reported neck pain and was transported to St. Louise Regional Hospital.
The driver of the SUV was reportedly going to be airlifted to Valley Medical Center. County Roads was contacted for a hard closure of Monterey Road between Highland Avenue on the north end and Church Avenue on the south end, with an estimated closure time of approximately two hours.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. An evidence tow was requested for the SUV, which was later transported to a tow yard. The closure was lifted later that night.
