Sacramento County, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, September 13, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality after a car struck a power pole, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:08 PM at 9671 Tavernor Road, a rural roadway in Sacramento County.
Authorities said the vehicle struck a power pole, damaging its base and raising concerns that the pole might fall. SMUD was notified and responded to assess the damage. Fire personnel transported the driver, initially believing the injuries might prove fatal, to Kaiser South. The case was upgraded from a minor injury to a major injury collision before ultimately being reclassified as a fatality later that evening.
A flatbed tow was requested for the vehicle, which was towed and secured at a tow yard. The vehicle was found to be linked to an outstanding warrant.
