San Jose, CA – On the night of Friday, August 28, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle resulted in a fatality in Santa Clara County, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol and San Jose Police Department report that emergency personnel responded around 10:59 PM to a serious crash on northbound Interstate 680, just south of the McKee Road off-ramp.
Authorities determined that a multi-vehicle collision occurred involving a motorcycle, a gray Acura MDX SUV, a gray Nissan Rogue, and a blue sedan. The impact caused vehicles and wreckage to block multiple lanes, coming to rest across the center divide and right-hand shoulder.
First responders and fire personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed at least one fatality. Officers issued a SigAlert and fully closed the northbound lanes of I-680 while Caltrans and local law enforcement diverted traffic and cleared heavy roadway debris.
Tow crews were dispatched to impound the involved vehicles, including the damaged Acura SUV with a broken rear axle and the motorcycle. All lanes were reopened around 2:18 AM on Saturday morning.
CHP has not released whether speed, mechanical failure, or alcohol were factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
