Yuba County, CA – On the night of Thursday, August 27, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in at least one fatality in the Plumas Lake area, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol and Yuba County Sheriff’s Office report that the accident took place around 11:24 PM in the 3600 block of Forty Mile Road, just south of Dairy Road.
Authorities said a black van and a gray Honda Civic collided head-on, causing both vehicles to block the entire roadway. The force of the impact left occupants trapped inside their vehicles and requiring extrication. Emergency responders and fire personnel secured the scene, shutting down Forty Mile Road to allow a medical helicopter to land.
Law enforcement dispatch logs confirmed at least one fatality resulting from the crash. Two tow trucks were dispatched to hold both vehicles as evidence as county road crews addressed significant oil and debris in the roadway.
CHP has not released whether speed, mechanical failure, or alcohol were factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
