Livermore, CA – In the early hours of Monday, August 24, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on Interstate 580, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:36 AM on westbound Interstate 580 near the North Livermore Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities said a gray sedan struck the center divider and came to rest blocking the middle lanes. As a result of the impact, the occupant was found not moving inside the vehicle, which began smoking. Alameda County Fire Department requested an expedited response, anticipating a rescue operation. The coroner was notified and responded.
Southbound North Livermore Avenue under Interstate 580 was closed due to the crash and resulting car fire, with an unknown estimated time of opening. The closure was lifted at approximately 5:04 AM. A tow was requested for the vehicle.
