Atascadero, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on State Route 41 near Toro Creek Road, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:01 AM.
Authorities said a gray pickup truck struck a tree and went approximately 20 feet down an embankment, scattering debris across the roadway. Fire personnel worked to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
Atascadero Police Department and Morro Bay Police Department assisted with traffic control while Caltrans crews responded to establish a closure. Caltrans implemented one-way traffic control on both sides of State Route 41, with a full closure eventually put in place near Los Altos. A tow was requested for the pickup truck.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
