San Joaquin County, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality in the Thornton area, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:23 PM on Interstate 5 near the Walnut Grove Road off-ramp.
Authorities said a blue Honda Civic struck a tree and came to rest in a ditch. Fire personnel responded to the scene, and lane two was blocked during the response. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was notified to respond in its capacity as coroner.
A flatbed tow was requested for the Honda. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
