Yuba City, CA – On the evening of Sunday, August 2, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality after a car swerved into an orchard and caught fire, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:59 PM near State Route 20 and Lytle Road.
Authorities said the vehicle swerved and collided into an orchard, coming to rest on its side before becoming fully engulfed in flames with the occupant still inside. A nearby farmer attempted to use irrigation water to help extinguish the fire after a fire extinguisher proved insufficient. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office was notified to respond in its capacity as coroner, with an extended response time due to responding from Live Oak.
Westbound traffic was diverted to South Butte Road during the response. An evidence tow was requested for the vehicle, which was transported to a tow yard following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings.
