Placer County, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, July 24, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on westbound Interstate 80 near the Blue Canyon Road on-ramp, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:33 PM.
Authorities said the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree, becoming visible from the road following the crash. Groveland CAL FIRE was notified and responded. A traffic break was initiated westbound from Blue Canyon, with multiple emergency vehicles staged in the center divide. Air ambulances were requested to respond to the scene. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office was notified to respond in its capacity as coroner.
A flatbed tow was requested for the vehicle. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
