Plumas County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, July 23, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on State Route 70, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:56 PM in the Beckwourth area.
Authorities said a Toyota 4Runner left the roadway approximately 30 feet and struck a power pole, nearly splitting it in half. The driver could not be removed from the vehicle for further assessment at the scene. Multiple other vehicles were stopped in the area. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office was notified and responded, along with fire department personnel. Plumas Sierra Rural Electric was notified regarding the damaged pole.
A regular tow was requested for the Toyota 4Runner, which had two damaged wheels on the passenger side, along with both doors and part of the roof removed during the response. Caltrans was also notified.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
