Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash near SR-92, Hesperian Blvd Off-Ramp in Alameda County

Alameda County, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on westbound State Route 92 near the Hesperian Boulevard off-ramp, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:54 PM on westbound State Route 92 east of Industrial Boulevard.

Authorities said the collision involved a U-Haul truck and a yellow truck, with vehicles coming to rest on the right shoulder. The driver of the U-Haul exited the vehicle and was found performing CPR on a person in the roadway, indicating a possible vehicle-versus-pedestrian element to the crash. A Toyota SUV was also involved and sustained damage all around.

A SigAlert was issued closing lanes two through four of westbound State Route 92 with an unknown estimated time of opening. A heavy-duty evidence tow was requested for a two-axle box truck measuring approximately 30 feet long, which was found wedged between a guardrail and a sound wall. Separate tows were arranged for the Toyota SUV and the U-Haul trailer, which had sustained damage to its left side and rear.

The incident was confirmed as a fatality at approximately 5:19 PM. Lanes were reopened incrementally throughout the evening, with all lanes fully open and the SigAlert cancelled at approximately 7:46 PM.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased or the full circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Alameda County Car Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims

California law follows the principle of comparative negligence. This means that even if a driver is found partially at fault for an accident, their surviving family members may still pursue compensation if the negligence of another party, such as another driver or a defective vehicle, contributed to the crash. Investigators with California law enforcement examine the actions of each party involved to determine what role each may have played.

Regardless of the findings, the family of the deceased may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide the family with compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
