Livermore, CA – In the early hours of Saturday, July 5, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on eastbound Interstate 580 near the Isabel Avenue west on-ramp, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:16 AM.
Authorities said a vehicle struck the center divider and overturned onto its side off the freeway, with the driver ejected into lane four. Approximately 15 vehicles stopped at the scene. A pickup truck blocking the number four lane was also identified as a possible associated vehicle.
A traffic break was initiated, and all lanes were blocked during the initial response. Alameda County Fire Department was notified and responded. The driver was transported to Eden Medical Center.
A SigAlert was issued closing all eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 just west of Isabel Avenue with an unknown estimated time of opening. The closure was later updated to lanes one, two, and three. An evidence tow was requested for the vehicle. All lanes were reopened and the SigAlert cancelled at approximately 2:55 AM.
The incident was initially classified as a major injury crash before being confirmed as a fatality. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
