Fatal, Fiery Crash on Napa Rd near SR 121 in Sonoma County

Sonoma County, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, June 29, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on Napa Road near State Route 121, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:37 PM near Silverado Sonoma Vineyards.

Authorities said a gray Subaru Forester went off the roadway and overturned onto its passenger side in a driveway at 2800 Napa Road, with flames coming from underneath the vehicle.

Multiple bystanders attempted to free the occupant from the vehicle and used fire extinguishers to suppress the flames while emergency personnel were en route. The occupant inside the vehicle was found not moving.

Fire department personnel arrived and addressed the fire. An air medical unit was considered but ultimately not dispatched.

Caltrans and County Roads were contacted for a hard closure, though the request was subsequently cancelled as the vehicle was not blocking the roadway. A flatbed tow was requested for the Subaru Forester, which sustained major front-end damage. The vehicle was transported following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased or the full circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
