Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, June 25, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on southbound Interstate 5, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:09 AM.
Authorities said a black Subaru Impreza was found upside down in the center divide fully engulfed in flames, with the vehicle subsequently going down into the Kern River. A grass fire also ignited in the center divide following the crash.
Fire department personnel were notified and responded to the scene. The coroner was notified and was to call into dispatch.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased or the full circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
