Sonoma County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, June 19, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on Lakeville Highway at Cannon Lane, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:30 PM in the Lakeville area.
Authorities said a white Toyota Prius left the roadway approximately 10 feet, knocking down a utility pole and starting a grass fire that grew in size as bystanders reported it. A check on the vehicle revealed it may have been reported stolen.
PG&E was notified and arrived within approximately 25 minutes to address downed power lines, completing their work before AT&T was contacted to address separate lines across the roadway.
A traffic alert was issued closing all lanes of Lakeville Highway at State Route 37, with southbound traffic diverted to Stage Gulch Road and northbound traffic restricted from turning onto Lakeville Highway. The road was expected to remain closed for approximately two hours due to downed lines and a telephone pole.
Google Maps was updated to reflect the closure to divert traffic. A wrecker was requested for the vehicle, which had come to rest approximately 10 feet off the roadway.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased or the full circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
