Concord, CA – On the morning of Friday, June 19, 2026, a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:01 AM on southbound State Route 242 near the Grant Street off-ramp just south of Solano Way.
Authorities said a motorcycle collided with a maroon Toyota RAV4, with the motorcycle and rider coming to rest on the right shoulder. The Contra Costa Fire Department responded to the scene. The slow lane was blocked, and the Grant Street off-ramp was closed during the response.
A SigAlert was issued, closing lanes three and four of southbound State Route 242 north of Grant Street, along with the Grant Street off-ramp, for an estimated two hours, with motorists advised to use alternate routes.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office was notified and responded. A flatbed tow was requested for the motorcycle, which sustained major damage. The roadway was reopened and the SigAlert cancelled at approximately 11:54 AM.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
