Fatal Crash on US-101 near South California St Off-Ramp in Ventura

Ventura, CA – On the evening of Monday, June 8, 2026, a two-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on southbound US-101 near the South California Street on-ramp, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:54 PM.

Authorities said the collision involved a GMC SUV and a Volvo, with one vehicle going off the roadway into an embankment and catching fire. One occupant was reported trapped inside the burning vehicle. 

Lanes two and three were closed between the Highway 33 connector and California Street while emergency personnel attended to the scene. Caltrans was contacted for a hard closure with an estimated arrival of 30 minutes. Ventura County Fire Department was requested to assist the coroner with the extraction of a deceased occupant from the vehicle.

The coroner was notified and responded to the scene. Two tow trucks were requested for the vehicles, with the Volvo and Tahoe transported separately following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings. All lanes were reopened at approximately 3:52 AM.

No additional details regarding the identities of those involved had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
