Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-205 in Tracy

Tracy, CA – In the early hours of Saturday, May 23, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on eastbound Interstate 205, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:34 PM.

Authorities said the collision involved at least three vehicles, including a white Honda that was split in half and came to rest approximately 150 feet down the right shoulder, a Toyota Camry, and a Chevrolet Silverado that ended up in the center divide.

Two vehicles were found on the right shoulder in the trees with one occupant outside a vehicle, while hazard lights were visible in the center divide. Stockton Fire Department responded to the scene.

The number three lane was closed for an extended period while investigators processed the scene. Tow trucks were requested for the Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Silverado, while a heavy-duty evidence tow with 150 feet of cable was required to recover the white Honda from the shoulder.

Caltrans was notified following the confirmation of the fatality. The roadway was cleared at approximately 3:01 AM, with the vehicles transported to the Tracy area office.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased or the full circumstances of the collision had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
