Vallejo, CA – On the evening of Thursday, May 21, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in one fatality and left a second occupant requiring extrication on eastbound State Route 37 near the Interstate 80 connector, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:11 PM on eastbound State Route 37 on the Columbus Parkway off-ramp near the Interstate 80 connector.
Authorities said a white Nissan SUV rolled down a hill and came to rest facing the wrong way approximately four to five feet off the roadway on a relatively flat area. Two occupants were inside the vehicle, both of whom appeared severely injured.
Bystanders stopped to check on the occupants prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while responders worked to extricate the second occupant from the vehicle. Vallejo Fire Department also responded and coordinated with on-scene units.
A SigAlert was issued, closing all lanes of the eastbound State Route 37 to Interstate 80 connector with an unknown estimated time of opening. Caltrans was notified and coordinated lane closures, with the ramp reopened and the SigAlert cancelled at approximately 8:23 PM. A flatbed tow truck was requested for the overturned Nissan SUV.
No additional details regarding the identities of those involved had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
