Plumas County, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2026, a three-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality and left at least one person with major injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:17 AM on State Route 70 near Ede Street in the Chilcoot-Vinton area.
Authorities said the collision involved a truck, an SUV, and a sedan, with two vehicles going off the roadway and one remaining on the road. One occupant was found with a severe broken leg, while all other occupants were able to exit their vehicles.
Two medical units and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene. Both lanes of State Route 70 were shut down to facilitate the landing of the CareFlight helicopter while emergency personnel attended to those injured.
The three vehicles involved included a Ford F-150, a Ford Explorer, and a Dodge Dart, all sustaining varying degrees of damage. Three tow trucks were requested to remove the vehicles from the scene.
A witness at the scene began clearing debris from the roadway prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. The roadway was cleared at approximately 12:36 PM, with the incident confirmed as a three-vehicle major injury crash before being upgraded to a fatality later in the afternoon.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
