Walnut Grove, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, May 4, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality at the Twin Cities Road off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:20 PM.
Authorities said a vehicle left the roadway and went into the bushes, overturning in the process. The vehicle was initially reported to be on fire, though responding units confirmed upon arrival that the vehicle had overturned but was not burning.
One occupant was found conscious at the scene when fire department units arrived. An evidence tow was subsequently requested for the vehicle.
Twin Cities Road was closed in both directions while investigators processed the scene, with Caltrans and County Roads contacted to assist with the closure, and changeable message signs updated to alert motorists.
Eastbound traffic was blocked at the west end of the off-ramp while the investigation was underway. The roadway was cleared, and all closures were lifted at approximately 4:03 PM.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
