Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash near I-580, North Livermore Ave Off-Ramp

Livermore, CA – On the morning of Thursday, April 30, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality on eastbound Interstate 580 near the North Livermore Avenue off-ramp, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:59 AM on eastbound Interstate 580 just east of North Livermore Avenue.

Authorities said the collision involved a gray Toyota Tundra, a gray Nissan, and a big rig with an unloaded trailer, along with at least one additional vehicle. The gray Toyota Tundra rolled over multiple times before coming to rest high-centered on the center divide. A black pickup truck came to rest on top of a guardrail on the right shoulder with rollover damage. The big rig and a gray SUV also ended up in the center divide. Debris was scattered across the roadway, prompting a full lane closure while crews worked to clear the scene.

Lanes four through seven were closed initially, with all lanes blocked at one point to allow for debris removal. A traffic break was initiated at North Livermore Avenue, and the Transportation Management Center was requested to open express lanes to assist with traffic flow. Caltrans was notified and coordinated with authorities during the closure. Multiple tow trucks were requested, including an evidence tow for the gray Nissan. All lanes were fully reopened at approximately 9:41 AM.

The deceased was identified as the occupant of the gray Toyota Tundra. A three-axle commercial truck with no trailer was also identified as having been involved in the collision. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
