Fatal Head-On Crash at Metz Rd near King City in Monterey County

Monterey County, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, April 24, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in a fatality on Metz Road near King City, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:27 PM at 43850 Metz Road.

Authorities said a black Ford Fusion and a gray Dodge Ram were involved in a head-on collision, with both vehicles catching fire following the impact. A male occupant was found on the ground outside one of the vehicles with injuries. A reporting party noted that one of the vehicles had been observed driving in the opposing lane prior to the crash.

Traffic in the area was blocked off while emergency personnel responded to the scene. Fire department units responded and worked to extinguish the flames. Both vehicles were completely burned by the time tow services arrived, requiring two flatbed tow trucks for removal.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
