Fatal Crash at Daley Rd, Ave 17 near Madera

Madera, CA – On the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality at 17256 Daley Road, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:24 PM near Avenue 17.

Authorities said a vehicle overturned in front of a nearby residence, possibly after striking a tree. A red SUV was observed leaving the scene, and investigators were unable to immediately determine whether it was connected to the collision or had transported the driver away from the scene. CAL FIRE was notified and responded.

A GMC vehicle registered to the scene was identified, though records indicated it had been sold approximately two months prior. Chowchilla Police Department responded to a nearby auto shop where a male individual had gone inside and initially refused to speak with officers. Investigators identified the individual only by the name Jose, who contacted authorities and confirmed his involvement in the collision before making his way to the auto shop. An evidence tow was requested for the involved vehicle.

The incident was ultimately classified as two separate events, including a hit-and-run and a single-vehicle fatality. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
