Fatal Pedestrian Crash at SR-92, I-280 Connector in San Mateo County

San Mateo County, CA – In the early hours of Thursday, March 19, 2026, a pedestrian fatality was reported at the connector from westbound State Route 92 to northbound Interstate 280, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:39 AM.

Authorities said a person was found deceased on the right shoulder, with investigators determining that the individual had jumped from northbound Interstate 280 to westbound State Route 92. 

Fire department personnel responded and confirmed the fatality. A gray Toyota Camry was located on northbound Interstate 280 at the westbound State Route 92 connector in connection with the incident and was subsequently towed from the scene.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office was contacted for medical response, and the coroner was notified and made contact with supervising officers. Caltrans was also notified during the response.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
