Responding officers provided PG&E with two pole line numbers to assist with the repair effort. Caltrans was also notified and coordinated with authorities on roadway management. The Del Puerto Canyon area Police Department was additionally contacted.

The driver of the BMW was transported to a hospital with complaints of pain and lacerations to the right arm and leg. The incident was later upgraded to a fatality, and fire department personnel were confirmed to be in possession of the deceased. A second tow truck was requested for the BMW following the initial tow arrangement for the white Lexus.

The roadway was estimated to remain closed until approximately 6:00 PM, pending the clearance of downed power lines and the completion of the investigation.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
