Plumas County, CA – On the evening of Monday, February 23, 2026, a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision resulted in fatal injuries at an intersection on Main Street, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:39 PM in front of the Savemore store at a stop light along Main Street.
Initial reports indicated a blue Honda or Hyundai passenger car struck a pedestrian in the intersection. The reporting party advised dispatchers that they heard the collision occur.
Plumas County Sheriff’s Office deputies, including a sergeant, responded to the scene along with fire department personnel and medical responders. Despite emergency medical efforts, the incident was later classified as a fatality. Authorities have not released the identity of the pedestrian pending notification of next of kin.
The California Department of Transportation was notified and responded to assist with traffic control and roadway safety. Tow services were requested, and the involved vehicle was removed from the scene and taken to a tow yard on Buchanan Street for evidence processing and impound.
The roadway was cleared shortly after midnight, and normal traffic resumed. The collision remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
