Colusa County, CA – On the morning of Saturday, February 21, 2026, a single-vehicle rollover collision resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:16 AM on southbound Interstate 5 at the College City off-ramp transition road.
Initial reports described a vehicle rollover with significant debris scattered across the roadway. Authorities indicated that an additional male was observed outside of the vehicle and that a pedestrian was later reported lying in the roadway. Multiple vehicles stopped at the scene as emergency responders were dispatched.
The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office and fire personnel responded to assist with traffic control and medical aid. Both northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were temporarily closed, and a SigAlert was issued as officials diverted traffic to County Line Road and directed motorists toward Highway 99. Additional units were requested to assist with the extended closure.
Officials later confirmed that the driver was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Vacaville for treatment. The incident was subsequently reclassified as a fatality.
Caltrans coordinated roadway management as lanes were gradually reopened. An evidence tow was conducted for a Ford van registered to the vehicle’s owner, and the vehicle was transported to a tow yard in Willows. All lanes were fully reopened later that morning. The collision remains under investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a Wrongful Death Claim.
