Plumas County, CA – Two people were killed in a head-on collision Sunday evening, February 15, 2026, on U.S. 395 just north of the California-Nevada state line, according to CHP Fatal.
The crash was first reported at approximately 7:31 PM, after callers said a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes between the agricultural station and Bordertown.
By 7:36 PM, reports indicated a two-vehicle head-on traffic collision just north of the state line. The vehicles involved were described as a tan Subaru and a white four-door sedan. Later logs identified the vehicles as a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Subaru Outback, both sustaining significant front-end and burn damage.
Emergency responders, including REMSA, Truckee Meadows Fire Department, and local sheriff’s offices, were dispatched to the scene. One vehicle was reported to be on fire.
At approximately 7:56 PM, responders indicated one party was deceased inside a vehicle, and CPR was being performed on a second patient. By 8:45 PM, logs noted “double 1144,” a code indicating two fatalities at the scene.
The coroner was requested, and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) responded to assist with traffic control and roadway conditions. Tow services were later dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims. The crash remains under investigation.
