Mountain View, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, a single-vehicle traffic collision resulted in fatal injuries to one person, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:09 PM on State Route 237 East near the Evelyn Avenue on-ramp.
Witnesses reported that the bronze BMW sedan involved in the crash appeared to have been traveling at a speed of over 100 miles per hour. The collision occurred on the right-hand shoulder of the eastbound State Route 237 on-ramp. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop facing sideways across the lanes.
Initial reports received by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that two individuals were observed exiting the crashed vehicle. However, one involved party, identified as a passenger, told responders that the driver was unable to get out of the car. Shortly after the impact, the vehicle caught fire.
The fire department was immediately dispatched and successfully extinguished the flames before working to extract the patient from the wreckage. Due to the severity of the injuries, the CHP requested a coroner be dispatched to the scene.
Authorities will release the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. The circumstances leading up to this single-vehicle crash continue to be reviewed.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a Wrongful Death Claim.
