Concord, CA – On the evening of Friday, January 31, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision in Contra Costa County resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:05 PM near the State Route 4 eastbound Solano Way on-ramp.
Preliminary dispatch information indicates that an SUV swerved across multiple lanes of traffic before leaving the roadway and coming to rest on the right shoulder. Subsequent reports clarified that a white Subaru hatchback and a gray four-door sedan were involved in the collision, with the gray sedan traveling down an embankment and the Subaru stopping in the center divider.
Responding authorities experienced initial difficulty locating the vehicles due to their positions off the roadway. Once access was established, officers confirmed significant damage and reported uncertainty as to whether an occupant remained inside one of the vehicles at the time of contact.
Fire department personnel were dispatched to the scene and conducted an emergency extraction from one of the vehicles. Authorities later reported that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, indicating the severity of the injuries sustained in the crash.
Despite life-saving efforts, the injured party was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the incident was officially reclassified from a traffic collision with unknown injuries to a fatality at approximately 9:10 PM.
Evidence tows were requested as part of the investigation, and transition roads connecting Pacheco Boulevard to westbound State Route 4 were shut down to allow CHP and Caltrans crews to safely manage the scene and preserve evidence.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
