Fatal Crash into Canal near Meadow Dr, West Ln in Merced County

Merced County, CA – On the evening of Monday, January 19, 2026, a traffic collision resulted in fatal injuries after a vehicle overturned into a canal, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:45 PM at Meadow Drive and West Lane.

Dispatch logs indicate the vehicle was found on its side in a canal at the intersection. Responding units requested medical assistance and fire personnel as part of standard emergency response procedures.

CHP records note the vehicle, identified as a Ford Ranger, came to rest approximately 20 feet down in a ditch. Towing services were requested to assist with the recovery of the vehicle from the canal area.

Cal Fire personnel responded and temporarily closed both lanes to allow emergency crews to work safely. Authorities followed established collision investigation protocols, including scene documentation and roadway safety measures.

By approximately 9:45 PM, officials reported the scene had been handled, and the roadway was cleared. The incident remains documented as a fatal collision, and no additional injury details were released.
