Truckee, CA – A fatal collision occurred on westbound Interstate 80 near the Ag Station on Sunday, January 18, 2026, according to the CHP Fatal.
Emergency responders, including Cal Fire and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), were dispatched to the scene after receiving notification of the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle was struck and became obstructed on or near the railroad tracks, requiring specialized recovery efforts. Fire and law enforcement personnel secured the scene, halted train traffic, and coordinated with UPRR to safely remove the vehicle. One track remained open during the operation while responders established safety measures to protect both motorists and emergency crews.

Investigators remained on scene to document the circumstances of the crash, including roadway conditions and the position of the vehicle in relation to the tracks. UPRR recovery crews required specialized equipment and cable to remove the vehicle, with officials estimating approximately three hours to clear the obstruction.
CHP continues to investigate the collision to determine contributing factors, and officials urge motorists to remain cautious in the area.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
