Sacramento, CA – On the morning of Friday, January 9, 2026, a pedestrian collision resulted in a fatality along Folsom Boulevard in the 9300–9387 block, according to CHP Fatal.
California Highway Patrol logs show the incident was first reported at approximately 6:55 AM. Initial reports indicated a silver four-door sedan struck a pedestrian, leaving the individual down in the traffic lanes.
Fire department personnel responded to the scene shortly afterward and confirmed the roadway needed to be blocked to allow emergency crews to render aid and secure the area. Eastbound lanes of Folsom Boulevard were closed during the morning commute as traffic control measures were implemented.
Investigators identified the involved vehicle as a silver Nissan with front-end damage. CHP requested an evidence tow, and the vehicle was later escorted to a tow yard for further examination as part of the investigation.
Traffic advisories were issued for morning commuters, and one eastbound lane was later reopened while another remained closed for an undetermined period. CHP coordinated with county road officials to manage traffic flow and scene safety.
At approximately 8:56 AM, CHP officially updated the incident classification from major injury to fatality. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
The collision remains under investigation, and no additional details regarding contributing factors have been made public.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
