San Francisco, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, December 31, 2025, a traffic collision resulting in a fatality was reported on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred at approximately 3:07 AM in the area of the toll plaza on the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge. An automated traffic collision notification was received, which initiated a CHP response in accordance with standard emergency procedures.
CHP logs show that Marin Fire Department units and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office were notified and coordinated as part of the incident response. Fire department personnel confirmed their arrival at the scene and remained available to assist as needed during the investigation.
A green motorcycle was documented at the scene and was later authorized for an evidence tow following coordination with Golden Gate Bridge authorities. CHP officers conducted scene documentation and evidence collection consistent with established investigative protocols.
Traffic management measures were implemented during the response and investigative process. CHP reported that all lanes were reopened by approximately 6:03 AM after the roadway was cleared and the investigation at the scene was concluded.
The identity of the deceased was not released. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
