Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Monday, December 29, 2025, a fatal head-on traffic collision occurred at State Route 145 and West Ford Avenue, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash was first reported at approximately 7:23 PM and involved a white Tesla and a black four-door sedan. Both vehicles were located at the scene with significant roadway debris, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Officers stated that additional information indicated involvement of a big rig cab that was stopped on the right-hand shoulder. Smoke was observed coming from the engine area of the big rig, and precautionary measures were taken to ensure scene safety.

Cal Fire and Fresno County Sheriff’s Office units responded to assist with emergency operations, traffic control, and scene management. Authorities requested the California Department of Transportation to implement roadway closures at State Route 145 near Interstate 5 and at El Dorado Road to secure the area.

Traffic was blocked for an extended period while responders conducted emergency operations, cleared hazards, and documented evidence. Caltrans crews arrived to support closure operations and assist with traffic flow adjustments.

The fatality was confirmed during the course of the response, and standard investigative and coroner notification procedures were initiated. CHP stated that the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and no further details regarding contributing factors were released.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
