Driver Killed in Crash with Power Pol at SR-20, Acacia Ave in Sutter

Sutter, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, December 24, 2025, a single-vehicle collision with a power pole resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:24 AM at State Route 20 and Acacia Avenue.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle had been traveling westbound prior to the crash. Investigators reported that the car left its lane of travel for unknown reasons and struck a power pole, resulting in extensive damage that left the vehicle totaled.

CHP officials said the vehicle was occupied by a single individual who became trapped following the collision. Fire department personnel responded and worked to extricate the occupant while securing the crash scene and addressing immediate safety hazards.

Officials reported that the impact caused the power pole to be knocked down, leading to a power outage affecting nearby infrastructure, including traffic signal equipment. Westbound lanes of State Route 20 were blocked as emergency crews conducted rescue operations and scene stabilization.

Caltrans was requested to respond to assess damage to a nearby light standard and roadway equipment, while utility representatives were notified to evaluate downed power and communication lines. Tow services were dispatched under evidence tow procedures to remove the vehicle once investigative documentation was completed.

Authorities stated that the injuries sustained in the crash were fatal. The investigation remains ongoing as CHP continues to examine vehicle movement, roadway conditions, and potential contributing factors in accordance with standard traffic collision investigation protocols.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
