Fresno County, CA – In the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, a vehicle collision involving a white Chevrolet Cobalt and an unknown vehicle resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:07 AM near Avenue 7 1/2 and Avenue 7.
CHP dispatch logs indicate that the driver of a white Chevrolet Cobalt reported being struck head-on by an unknown vehicle that was veering off the roadway. Authorities said it was unclear whether the second vehicle remained at the scene or left prior to law enforcement arrival. The Chevrolet Cobalt came to rest on the right shoulder and was not drivable.
Emergency medical services, including Madera EMS and Cal Fire, were dispatched, and the incident was upgraded from unknown injuries to a fatal traffic collision. A nearby light pole was also reported damaged, prompting a response from PG&E to assess the integrity of the structure.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and no further information about the involved parties has been released.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
