Antioch, CA – On the morning of Monday, December 22, 2025, a pedestrian collision resulted in fatal injuries to an adult male, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:41 AM at the State Route 4 East Somersville Road on-ramp.
CHP dispatch logs indicate that the pedestrian was located in the center divide after being struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders, including fire personnel and law enforcement, were dispatched to the scene, and the incident was classified as a fatality. Authorities requested evidence documentation and coordinated with towing services as part of the investigation. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office was later contacted for the coroner response.
The collision prompted extensive traffic disruptions, with all eastbound lanes and the on-ramp closed for a prolonged period while investigators worked at the scene. Caltrans was requested to assist with a full closure, and barricades were established near the Loveridge Road on-ramp. CHP reported significant congestion, including vehicles stopped for several hours, pedestrians walking on the freeway, and some drivers traveling the wrong way on nearby ramps during the closure.
Gradual reopening of lanes began early in the afternoon, with multiple lanes restored before all lanes were fully reopened at approximately 3:15 PM. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and no additional information about the pedestrian or the involved vehicle was released.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
