Tesla Crash on SR-49 Kills Driver in Nevada City

Nevada City, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, December 19, 2025, a single-vehicle crash resulted in fatal injuries after a black Tesla left the roadway along State Route 49, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:46 PM on State Route 49 near the passing lane just north of a curve.

Authorities stated that the vehicle spun out and traveled off the right-hand shoulder of the roadway before coming to rest off-road. Fire department personnel and CHP officers responded to the scene, and the collision was later classified as a fatal crash. Officials confirmed that the incident involved only one vehicle and that the roadway was eventually cleared after emergency response and recovery operations were completed.

Investigators requested towing services and secured the vehicle before it was transported to a tow yard. CHP indicated that media notifications were made once the scene was stabilized and that no ongoing roadway hazards remained following the cleanup.

The circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway remain under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the victim or contributing factors as of the latest report.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
