San Joaquin County, CA – On the evening of Friday, December 19, 2025, a head-on collision involving a passenger vehicle and a UPS delivery van resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:33 PM at the Grant Line Road off-ramp of Interstate 580 West.
Authorities stated that the crash involved a silver Honda passenger car and a black UPS van, with the impact blocking lanes on the off-ramp and prompting an emergency response from CHP and fire crews. Firefighters used extrication equipment to remove the driver and a passenger from the heavily damaged Honda, indicating severe injuries sustained in the collision.
Officials confirmed that the incident was later classified as a fatal traffic collision, and the county coroner was requested to respond to the scene. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, and evidence tows were ordered for the Honda and the UPS van as part of the investigation.
Police closed portions of Grant Line Road and the Interstate 580 West off-ramp for several hours while emergency crews assisted victims, documented evidence, and cleared the roadway. The closures were lifted later in the night once the scene was secured and all involved vehicles were removed.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
