Crash with Train near SR-34, South Las Posas Rd Kills Driver in Camarillo

Camarillo, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, December 18, 2025, a train versus vehicle collision resulted in fatal injuries at a roadway crossing, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:03 PM near State Route 34 and South Las Posas Road.

CHP Fatal logs indicate that the train came to an immediate stop following the collision, and emergency responders, including the Ventura County Fire Department, were requested to the scene as part of standard response procedures for a fatal traffic incident involving rail equipment. Union Pacific Railroad officials were also notified and coordinated with authorities while the scene was secured.

Tow services were later requested to remove the pickup truck, which had become lodged on the front end of the locomotive. The intersection and surrounding rail area remained closed for several hours as investigators worked to document the collision and ensure the tracks were cleared and safe for resumed rail operations.

By the evening hours, authorities confirmed that the vehicle had been fully removed from the locomotive. Roadways and rail lines were subsequently reopened once all units cleared the scene. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
